We filled our quota at the hotel!
Thanks to everyone who took time out of your busy schedules to reserve your hotel yesterday: 22 days till TYCA-West!

Make your hotel reservations today!
This is a reminder that tomorrow is the last day to make hotel reservations at Chase Suites and get the TYCA discount. Currently we only have 5 reservations in—which leaves us having not fulfilled our requirement of filling 10 rooms. I have already received enough out of state registration forms to know we can easily fill 10 rooms, but apparently very few people have made their hotel reservations yet. Please make your reservations today or tomorrow. And be sure to mention TYCA when you call. If you make your reservations today, let me know so that I can stop panicking about not fulfilling our contract with the hotel. Thanks.

TYCA-West Awards
Each year TYCA-West gives out awards in an effort to recognize two-year college English teachers in our region who exemplify innovation and creativity.
In Spring 2008 the TYCA-West REC members voted to add a fourth award modeled after National TYCA’s “ Nell Ann Picket Service Award. The TYCA-West Service Award recognizes the time, talent, “vision and voice” of service and leadership. This may include work at the institutional/regional level (faculty mentoring, research, boards and committees, etc.) or “work uniting the goals and efforts of organizations and groups that promote two-year colleges”(from the Two-Year College English Association Handbook section 7.2).
Awards
- The TYCA-West Annual Teaching Award
- The TYCA-West Annual Part-Time Teaching Award
- The TYCA-West Annual Writing Award
- The TYCA-West Service Award
Each winner will receive a $50 award and recognition at that year’s TYCA-West conference.

Two-year college full or part-time instructors in English, composition, literature, technical writing, and closely related disciplines. Nominees should currently teach at a two-year college in Arizona, Hawaii, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, or Southern Idaho. Nominations by colleagues are preferred, but self-nominations are acceptable.

New due date for proposals
Hello, I wanted to let everyone know that we have extended the deadline for proposals to Friday September 11th. While we have several solid proposals for workshops, panels, and individual papers we are hoping for a few more. See the link on the loast post for more details on the conference.
Also, note that in addition to Deborah Holdstein’s keynote and publishing in CCCs/TETYC workshop on Friday, Joe Harris from Duke will give a keynote on Saturday. It’s going to be quite a conference.
If you are planning on getting a hotel, we have a contract with special rates in the works but it has been held up in the bureaucratic bowels of the college. I will send out more info on this later or feel free to contact me when you are making your arrangements. Feel free to forward this email to anyone you think might be interested.
Thanks, Ron Christiansen TYCA-West 2009 Program Chair
